'It doesn't mean': Craig Hope shares more Sandro Tonali news after Newcastle contract update…

Newcastle United secured Sandro Tonali’s long-term future in secret.

Indeed, on Wednesday, news emerged that Tonali privately signed a contract extension at Newcastle United during his ban from football.

It was a show of faith from the club, and the agreement runs until 2029. Newcastle, however, are thought to have the option to extend it by a further year.

Effectively, Tonali is under contract at St James’ Park until the summer of 2030. That is brilliant news for Eddie Howe, who could do without another damaging transfer saga next summer.

Now, the club hold the cards over the midfielder’s future. Still, Tonali could yet be in line for another new deal.

Newcastle United would be willing to offer Sandro Tonali a quick-fire new contract

The extension was signed during his ban from football. Since, however, Tonali has established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading midfielders.

A hugely popular figure amongst supporters and undoubtedly one of Howe’s key players, it’s important to reward him for his good form.

Alexander Isak wanted to leave Newcastle after they didn’t reward him with a new contract in 2024 and the club cannot risk that happening again.

Luckily, Craig Hope of The Daily Mail has shared some promising news on his WhatsApp channel.

He revealed that Newcastle have learned lessons from the Isak saga. They would still offer Tonali improved terms to reflect his status in the game despite the length remaining on his current deal.

It’s added that sporting director Ross Wilson and CEO David Hopkinson would happily sit down with his agents if Tonali was pushing for a pay rise.

“It doesn’t mean contract talks are off the table,” he said.

“Newcastle aren’t just going to say ‘Sandro you’re contracted until 2030’, forget about a new deal. There have been lessons learned from the Alexander Isak saga.

“If Tonali wants a new deal, and as of now, we don’t know if he’s knocking on the door or open to a new contract, but if he was, Newcastle, Ross Wilson and David Hopkinson would absolutely sit down, listen and look to improve those terms.”

Newcastle United teammates blown away by Sandro Tonali

Geordie Boot Boys recently spoke to noted transfer insider Graeme Bailey.

Bailey revealed that players inside Newcastle believe they can beat anyone when Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes play together in midfield.

“Eddie Howe sees Tonali and Bruno as the key to this Newcastle side,” he said.

“One Newcastle player told me recently that when Bruno and Tonali walk on that pitch together, the side truly believe they can beat anyone.”

Tonali is now thought to be one of Newcastle’s best paid stars and had little doubt about signing the extension.

The former AC Milan star has proven an excellent signing for Newcastle and was crucial in their Carabao Cup win earlier this year. The longer he stays at the club, the better chance they have of winning more trophies.
