“Top attacking talent at Chelsea” – Home grown star could make Blues debut tonight

Chelsea’s team for tonight’s game against Ajax is out, and as we noted here, there are a few interesting things about it.

Filip Jorgensen is in midfield, Moises Caicedo is at right back… but perhaps the most interesting thing is some of the names on the bench. As we reported earlier today, the Blues registered a whopping 33 youth team players to their B squad this week to ensure they have plenty of youth to fill the bench later in the competition.

Well one of them is there tonight for the first time: Ryan Kavuma-McQueen is the next off the Cobham production line, and fans are getting very excited for him and what he can contribute in the months and years to come.

He’s been rewarded for exceptional performances in the youth team with a bench spot tonight, and who knows, he might even get on the pitch if things are going really well.

Nizaar Kinsella’s piece for the BBC a month ago claimed he was regarded as “potentially the top attacking talent at Chelsea. He is currently playing against players many years his senior in the Under-21s league this season and has taken part in multiple first-team training sessions.”

Well he’s obviously impressed in those sessions, as he’s been upgraded tonight. Enzo Maresca gave out 8 debuts to youth team players last season – could tonight see another?

In other news…

The London is Blue podcast took a look at tonight’s opposition and how we might look to hurt them – this team he’s selected looks perfectly suited to do just that.

Meanwhile Joe Cole also spoke about another of Chelsea’s top stars right now – he thinks Moises Caicedo is the world’s best midfielder, and he gets yet another start tonight.
