Jarrad Branthwaite has pledged to return from surgery a “stronger and better player” – and said “negative” messages only drive him on.
The Premier League defender from Wigton has gone under the knife after Everton revealed he had suffered a “complication” in his recovery from a hamstring injury.
The former Carlisle United man, 23, has since confirmed that the procedure has been a success.
And he said he is hugely motivated to return in better shape than ever – as he responded to messages both encouraging and less so.
In a post on Instagram, the Cumbrian wrote: “Operation completed successfully.
“Thanks to the medical team for their work and to everyone who’s reached out with messages of support.
“Even the negative ones add fuel to the fire and make me more determined.
“It’s been the toughest spell of my career so far but challenges build character.
“I’ll be back stronger and better than ever. Don’t doubt it.”
England international Branthwaite has been unable to play so far this season because of the ongoing injury problem.
Everton, in a [statement](https://www.evertonfc.com/news/2025/october/20/injury-update--jarrad-branthwaite?ref=ed_direct) ahead of the defender’s operation, said: “Everton Football Club can confirm Jarrad Branthwaite has experienced a complication in his recovery from a hamstring injury.
“Following specialist consultation, it has been determined the defender will undergo a surgical procedure tomorrow to address the issue.
“Branthwaite will commence a structured rehabilitation programme under the supervision of the club’s medical team following the operation.”
