Rangers have had a dismal start to the season, currently sitting in sixth place with only nine points from eight games.
Their only win so far comes from a 2-1 victory over Livingston, with the club drawing the remainder of their matches except for a 2-0 defeat to league leaders Hearts.
Whilst the club are still in the Scottish League Cup, set to face rivals Celtic on 2nd November in the Semi-finals, they’re yet to avoid defeat in the UEFA Conference League.
As such, the club decided to sack recent manager Russell Martin, replacing him with former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl.
As with any new manager, Rohl is shaking up his backroom staff, with assistant managers Mike Williamson and Matt Gill also being axed alongside Russell.
However, alongside replacing the assistant managers, Rohl has also filled the slot of performance manager that’s been vacant since June, hiring his recent colleague, Sascha Lense.
Now, Rangers have taken to their official website to reveal the hiring of Sascha Lense, announcing: “Rangers can today confirm the following appointments to the men’s first-team coaching staff.”
The statement continued: “Sascha Lense has joined the club as men’s first team performance manager, while Matthias Kaltenbach will also join Danny Röhl’s staff as assistant coach.
“Lense most recently worked alongside Röhl at Sheffield Wednesday and was previously part of Ralf Rangnick’s backroom team at Manchester United.”
The statement went on to confirm that the pair had been involved in their first Gers training session this morning as they start their life in Danny Rohl’s new set-up.
This is only the second time Lense has taken on the role of performance manager, having previously been a sport psychologist at Old Trafford under Ralf Rangnick, leaving Manchester United alongside Rangnick in 2022.
