The regular season begins tonight on the road against the Phoenix Suns; the team plays its home opener Thursday against the Utah Jazz. Both games tip off at 7 p.m.
Here are the names, faces and voices of Sacramento Kings basketball that you need to know.
Kings, NBC Sports California TV Broadcast crew
Mark Jones
Mark Jones serves dual responsibilities doing play-by-play, calling games for ESPN and when he’s not with the national sports network, he’s on the play-by-play for the Kings on NBC Sports California.
Years with Kings: 6
Years in media: 35
Jones said he’s looking forward to Kings head coach Doug Christie having a full training camp and making an “indelible mark stylistically” with the team.
“It’s going to be a case of some old dogs learning new tricks with some of the key players,” Jones said. “As Scott Perry says he’s looking for ‘volunteers, not hostages.’ So, I think Doug’s got a great cast of volunteers, and there’s a good chance that they’ll outperform a lot of the experts’ ‘predictions.’”

Kyle Draper
Kyle Draper splits the play-by-play duties with Jones. Draper fills in when Jones is calling games for ESPN. Draper also contributes to the pre-, and post-game and halftime shows with game analysis.
During the week, he’s a sports radio cohost with Sactown Sports (KTHK) 1140 AM. He hosts an afternoon show, “The Drive Guys,” with Kevin “Whitey” Gleason from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Years with Kings: 6
Years in media: 30
Draper said he thinks the team has potential and is looking forward to seeing how the veterans on the team come together.
“With Dennis Schröder, Zach (LaVine), DeMar (DeRozan) and Domantas (Sabonis), I think this team will go as far as they take us,” Draper said. “I want to see how these guys really mesh together with a true point guard on the roster too. You know, we didn’t have that second half of the season.”
The Sacramento Kings have hired Kyle Draper, formerly of NBC Sports Boston, to join the Kings broadcast team at NBC Sports California. Sacramento
Kayte Christensen
Kayte Christensen serves as the Kings TV color analyst alongside Jones and Draper for NBC Sports California. Christensen is a former WNBA player who played for the Phoenix Mercury, Houston Comets and Chicago Sky.
Years with Kings: 17
Years in media: 20
Christensen said she is looking forward to how everything comes together with the “newness” of the team.
“You think of a new front office, new coaching staff, and then, obviously, the team is different every season,” Christensen said. “You add new pieces, and so I’m really excited to see how the relationship between Scott Perry, Doug Christie and his staff really starts to kind of come together, I know it’s going to be a process.”
She added: “I’m just kind of excited to see how the early vision starts to come together, because I know it’s going to be a process, and it’s going to take a few years. I’m excited to see how that comes together for this season.”

Morgan Ragan

Ragan also co-hosts “Deuce and Mo,” a basketball podcast with her partner Deuce Mason talking Kings hoops.
Years with Kings: 5
Years in media: 14
Ragan is looking forward to the start of a new season and revitalized hope for the team.
“Every NBA season, I get super excited for it to just start again. I just love basketball altogether. And I think, like at the start of every season. I mean, for every NBA fan and every NBA team, there’s always hope,” Ragan said.
She added: “You can always kind of rely on hope. And so I think for another Kings season I’m just hopeful, hopeful that they can figure some things out and have a good product on the floor.”
Deuce Mason
Deuce Mason is an on-air contributor for NBC Sports California. He joins Ragan during the pregame, halftime and postgame shows.
Mason also co-hosts a basketball podcast called Deuce and Mo, with his partner Ragan.
Years with Kings: 12
Years in media: 20
Mason said is looking forward to seeing the team “form an identity”.
“It’s been tough last year with all the changes,” Mason said. “Can Doug Christie and Scott Perry kind of lay the foundation and start building something that the fans of Sacramento crave.”
He added: “Obviously, the fans want winning, but you know, as someone’s born and raised here, like you want a team that’s competitive, who fights, who shares the ball, I feel like that’s what they want to build, and I’m eager to see how this shakes out the next couple of years.”
Sactown Sports radio gameday voices
Gary “G-Man” Gerould
Gary Gerould has long been the radio voice of the Sacramento Kings since the team first landed in Sacramento in 1985. Gerould, who also goes by “G-Man,” is the radio play-by-play announcer for the Kings on Sactown Sports 1140 AM.
Years with the Kings: 41
Years in media: 67
Gerould said he’s looking forward to renewed hope and optimism as the new season gets underway.
“Every year at training camp, it’s a time of renewed hope and renewed optimism. And I think you try not to get sucked into that optimism under false pretenses,” Gerould said. “While I’ve seen a lot of things that certainly have been, I think, encouraging through training camp, the reality is the Western Conference remains loaded, almost top to bottom, and it’s going to be a dogfight.”
He added: “I’m cautiously optimistic. I’m certainly hopeful,” Gerould said. “On any given night, this team can be competitive, no matter who they’re playing, no matter what building they’re in, if they can be competitive on a consistent basis, then I think that that’s where you start to have a successful season.”

Jason Ross
Jason Ross is a sports broadcaster who handles color analyst duties alongside Gerould. Ross will also host pregame, halftime and postgame shows for Sactown Sports.
He’s also a co-host of “The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross” for Sactown Sports from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday.
Years with Kings: 32
Years in media: 32
Ross said he’s looking forward to seeing “how the whole blend works together”.
“It seems like an interesting match of veterans that have been around the league for a long time and some new guys. So to see how that all blends together with Doug Christie and Scott Perry’s vision, is something I really want to see how it all comes together.”
Henry Turner
Henry Turner is a former NBA player, who played with the Kings in two stints, the 1989-90 and 1994-95 seasons. Turner got his nickname “The High Flyer” for his memorable and stunning slam dunks. Now, Turner works alongside Gerould as a radio broadcaster and color analyst, sometimes filling in for Ross.
Years with Kings: 17
Years in media: 17
This season, Turner said, he’s looking forward to team growth and an effort to be sharp on the defensive side of the ball.
“I want to see the team get better,” he said. “I couldn’t tell you what that’s going to equate to, as far as wins and losses, but you know, when you see growth out there on the floor, you’d know what it looks like. So you know, that’s the main thing for me.”
He added: “Just what Doug Christie is preaching, be able to play Sacramento-style basketball, and that’s contingent on how he wants the guys to play. If you know anything about Doug Krystyna, defensive minded guy, first. He wants the team to have an identity on the defensive side of the ball. … see a little bit more aggression, to see a little bit more pressure, to see a little bit more attention is on the defensive side. That will probably be the first step.”
