Man United among frontrunners to sign Premier League striker

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim will hope to see his side extend their winning run to three Premier League matches when they face Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.

The Red Devils defeated reigning champions Liverpool on Sunday, marking the first time that they have won back-to back league games since Amorim took charge in November 2024.

Despite that result, United still sit ninth in the Premier League table, and Amorim will be desperate to see his side build on their impressive victory against Liverpool when they face the Seagulls.

Ahead of the game, it appears that United are one of the frontrunners to sign a prolific Premier League striker.

According to CaughtOffside, the Red Devils are one of a number of clubs interested in Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.

The report claims that fellow Premier League sides Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are also showing strong interest in the Frenchman, who recently made his international debut for Les Bleus.

Mateta, 28, initially joined the Eagles on loan from German side Mainz in 2021, before making the move permanent the following year.

After a relatively uninspiring first two seasons in England, Mateta has been prolific for Palace since the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

In total he has now scored 53 goals in 165 games for the South London club across all competitions, including 43 goals in the Premier League.

Mateta – who scored a hat-trick against Bournemouth on Saturday – has less than two years remaining on his current contract at Selhurst Park, and the report suggests that he is increasingly unlikely to enter into talks about a new deal.

It is claimed that the France international could therefore be available for a fee in the region of £40 million when the transfer window reopens in January.
