River Plate has become the latest club to be linked with Taty Castellanos, whose future at Lazio is clouded with mystery.
The Background
The Argentine striker joined the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2023, and spent his first campaign in the Italian capital as an understudy for club legend Ciro Immobile before becoming the first-choice centre-forward when the latter left for Besiktas.
Taty Castellanos Facing Uncertain Future
Despite his importance to the cause, reports from Italy and abroad have been continuously tipping Castellanos to leave Lazio. Last summer, the 27-year-old’s departure wasn’t possible, as the club wouldn’t have been able to buy a replacement due to the transfer ban. Nevertheless, this embargo should be lifted in the coming weeks, allowing the club to resume their transfer activities.

Therefore, sources have been linking the former Girona star with a potential move to the Premier League, where West Ham United and Burnley are said to be interested in his services. Moreover, Brazilian giants Flamengo have reportedly been keeping tabs on the situation for months.
River Plater Enter the Fray for Castellanos
In recent hours, a homecoming through the gates of River Plate has emerged as a possibility, at least according to an Argentine journalist whose words were picked up by Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi).

Lazio Want €40 million for Castellanos
However, Lazio would only consider relinquishing the currently-injured striker for a sizeable offer. The club’s president, Claudio Lotito, has reportedly set his asking price at €40 million. Interestingly, Castellanos has played in Chile, Uruguay, the United States, Spain and Italy, but never in his home country on Argentina.
