**Newcastle United were in inspired form last night as they battered Benfica in the Champions League under the lights at St James' Park.**
The Magpies claimed a 3-0 victory, their second win in as many Champions League outings, putting them on the road to qualifying for the knock-out stages of the competition.
Of course, there are still plenty of games to go in the league phase, but the two convincing wins over Union Saint-Gilloise and Benfica certainly won't have dented their confidence.
And if Anthony Gordon can continue to play like he did last night, we've got no reason to fear anybody. Benfica simply couldn't handle him.

Anthony Gordon was getting all sorts of praise on Instagram
Jose Mourinho grabbed Anthony Gordon for a word at full-time
------------------------------------------------------------
Gordon revealed what Jose Mourinho said to him at full-time when the two were seen having a word on the touchline, with the Portuguese manager telling the winger, "You're too much", which is a compliment coming from anyone, but Gordon idolised Mourinho growing up, so it had special weight for him.
Also dishing out compliments last night was a former Mourinho player, John Terry, who captained Chelsea under the Portuguese manager. Terry was handing out words of encouragement to Newcastle players on Instagram, and [Anthony Gordon got perhaps the best message from the former England defender.](https://www.instagram.com/p/DQFo8xTDLeS/?img_index=1)
> "Some performance mate. Taking people on, work rate and a goal. So good to watch."
Once more for the cheap seats - Keep it up, Anthony!

We've been banging on about this all day, but we'll say it one more time for good measure: Anthony Gordon must keep up that level of performance in every game from now on.
We know he's capable, as we've seen him do it before, and he has extra incentive this time around as he's playing for his place in England's World Cup team.
If Gordon plays like that every game, it will elevate everyone around him, and the goals will start flowing freely once again.
