Ian Maatsen is looking for Aston Villa to maintain their strong start to the UEFA Europa League when they take on Go Ahead Eagles.
The Dutchman is back in his homeland for Thursday night’s game as he looks to help Villa make it three wins from three in the league phase.
The team’s fine form, which has seen them accrue five straight victories, was kick-started by their opening game in the competition, and Maatsen hopes they can continue to produce in Europe.

“We didn’t start the season how we wanted to start, but I think we got together and showed that we’re capable of winning games back-to-back,” he said.
“Hopefully we can do that tomorrow as well.”
The left-back added: “As players, we know the qualities we have. Sometimes you go through those moments.
“The most important thing is to keep training, keep believing in our process we have with the coach and our style.
“We had to keep going. We stuck together and showed that we’re a really good team. It shows we can have good results.”
Maatsen has started both of Villa’s Europa League outings thus far, including a 2-0 victory, also in the Netherlands, against Feyenoord earlier this month.

Manager Unai Emery revealed that fellow left-back Lucas Digne hasn’t travelled to Deventer to face Go Ahead after picking up an injury on the weekend, meaning Maatsen is likely to start once again.
The 23-year-old feels he’s growing as a player as he embarks on his second season as a Villan.
“It’s strong competition,” he said of the rotation with Digne.
“Lucas is a fantastic player; he has a lot of qualities. I’m a young player coming to the Premier League, so I can learn a lot from him.
“We have a good relationship, so it keeps me sharp and keeps me focused. I’m not worried about my place in the team; the coach knows my qualities for the team and my teammates as well.
“Whenever they need me, I’m ready.”
