Manchester United, Tottenham, Newcastle receive boost in pursuit of £40 million-rated PL striker

Crystal Palace are losing hope of Jean-Philippe Mateta in the near future, as the striker is not expected to renew with the Eagles.

According to Caught Offside, Jean-Philippe Mateta could end up leaving Crystal Palace in the near future, with suggestions that a January exit could be possible. The French striker has seen a massive rise in stature of late, which could allow him a big move to one of the top clubs, as some from within the Premier League are keen.

Jean-Philippe Mateta has been key to Crystal Palace’s recent success and has certainly found a new lease of life under Oliver Glasner. It is only after the Austrian coach’s arrival at Selhurst Park has the Frenchman has found his scoring rhythm and has been lethal in front of goal.

He has just over 18 months on his existing deal, and Palace have been trying to get a new deal in place to keep hold of the striker. However, doubts are creeping in for the Londoners about whether they can keep hold of the striker beyond next summer.

While there are no plans for a winter sale, the report does state that it could be possible, especially if he refuses to renew his contract at the club. The report has earmarked a £40 million fee for Mateta if he were to leave, and there could be some notable clubs lurking around for his signature.

Manchester United are interested and could make their move for the striker, especially if Joshua Ziurkzee ends up leaving. With the departure of Rasmus Hojlund in the summer, and if the Dutchman also exits, Ruben Amorim will have a shortage of senior forward, meaning a move for Mateta could make sense.

Newcastle United and Tottenham keen on Mateta

Manchester United are not alone, but certainly with the strongest chance to sign Mateta if the £40 million-rated PL striker ends up leaving Palace in the winter. Newcastle United are also keen, but they certainly are not about to prioritise a centre-forward after the arrivals of Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa in the summer.

The same might be the case for Tottenham, who currently have Richarlison, Dominic Solanke and Randal Kolo Muani in their forward line, while Mathys Tel has also played there. So, unless someone like Richarlison leaves in January, the likelihood of Mateta coming in may seem like a stretch for Spurs.
