Chelsea in contract talks with key player

Chelsea continued their impressive form with an emphatic 5-1 win over Dutch side Ajax in a thrilling encounter in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Ajax captain Kenneth Taylor was sent off with the scoreline goalless, before striker Marc Guiu put the hosts in front at Stamford Bridge moments later.

Moises Caicedo then doubled their advantage, before ex-Manchester United man Wout Weghorst pulled one back for Ajax.

Chelsea were then awarded two penalties before half-time, with Enzo Fernandez and Estevao both winning and then converting a spot-kick each.

Shortly after the break, Tyrique George added a fifth for Enzo Maresca’s side, moving them up to 11th in the 36-team table.

Now, it has emerged that Chelsea are in talks with one of their most influential players about a proposed new contract.

According to GiveMeSport, the West London side are currently in negotiations with midfielder Moises Caicedo as they look to reward the player with a new deal.

Caicedo, 23, was named Chelsea’s player of the season last term and has continued his fine form at the start of the new campaign.

In total he has made more than 100 appearances for the Blues across all competitions since joining Chelsea from Benfica in 2023.

His impressive form hasn’t gone unnoticed, however, and Spanish giants Real Madrid are known to have been monitoring the Ecuador international.

Caicedo’s current contract with Chelsea is set to run until the end of the 2030/31 season, but the report suggests that the two parties are now in talks as the club are keen to reward the midfielder with an improved deal amid interest from Real.

It is also claimed that those in charge of Chelsea aren’t currently concerned that the player will push for a move away from Stamford Bridge, despite Caicedo recently cutting ties with his former agent.
