The Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are sitting with winning records heading into Week 8 of the 2025 NFL season, but both teams could be looking to add more talent at the trade deadline.
Chicago and Tampa Bay could seek pass rush help at the November 4 deadline, and that's why Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox lists the NFC franchises as potential trade landing spots for New York Jets edge rusher Jermaine Johnson.
Knox has Johnson's trade value as a conditional third-round pick in 2026.
"Teams are circling the winless Jets, hoping to pry a starting-caliber player from a team that is going nowhere fast. At 26 years old and with a contract that runs through 2026, Johnson should interest teams looking for short- or long-term help," Knox wrote.
Johnson has played four games this season, tallying one sack and 12 quarterback pressures with seven defensive stops. The 26-year-old missed three contests due to an ankle injury, but made his return to the lineup in Week 6.
In his last fully healthy season in 2023, Johnson posted 7.5 sacks with 56 quarterback pressures and earned a Pro Bowl nod. The Florida State product appeared in just two games last year after suffering a torn Achilles tendon in the Jets' second game.
Though neither the Bears nor the Bucs is in dire need of edge rushing help, playoff-caliber teams can never have too many capable pass rushers. Johnson would be a solid addition to either defense's pass-rushing rotation, as the former first-round pick's juice and explosiveness would fit well with any unit.
Chicago seems more likely to make a move for Johnson, especially with general manager Ryan Poles' history of making big moves. However, there's no denying Johnson wouldn't be an electric fit in Todd Bowles' aggressive defense.
