KENNI Thompson admitted the [Cherries](http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/cherries/clubnews/?ref=au) weren’t at their best in their 1-0 win over QPR in the National League Cup – but the important thing was that they progressed to the next round.
Thompson scored the only goal of the game on Sunday, converting from the penalty spot with 13 minutes to play after she was fouled in the box.
Reflecting on the game, Thompson told [afcb.co.uk](http://afcb.co.uk): “It wasn’t our best performance. The important thing is we got the win and a clean sheet as well is a positive to take.
“We’ve got a lot of things where we have to look ourselves ahead of the next game.
“We always take the positives but as a team we have high standards. We always want to be better and Sunday was definitely have to look at ourselves.
“But we ground out the result and that’s what’s most important.”
On her penalty taking technique, Thompson explained: “There was a little bit of time before winning the penalty and taking it. It was keeping my head straight to be calm and put it away.
“Penalties can be tough, both on the taker and the keeper’s part. It was just a case of keeping calm and composed with a clear focus on hitting the ball right.
“I think for me personally, I don’t over-complicate it. You don’t want too much running through your head.
“It’s a case of focusing on what I do, how I hit the ball and visualise it going in.”
AFC Bournemouth will face Exeter City away from home in the second knockout round on November 9.
