The Washington Wizards lost to the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night, 133-120 on the road. Washington falls to 0-1 to start the season while Milwaukee starts off with a 1-0 record.
Besides the fact that Bucks franchise player Giannis Antetokounmpo led his team with 37 points on 16-of-26 shooting, this game was a reunion of former Wizards and Bucks players. For Washington, Khris Middleton returned to his old stomping grounds, leading the Wizards to 23 points. And for the Bucks, Kyle Kuzma played against his old squad, scoring 12 points off the bench.
In addition to Middleton, rookie Tre Johnson got his first game action as the Wizards’ sixth man, scoring 16 points in 25 minutes of action. Kyshawn George got the start and scored 21 points. And Cam Whitmore scored 14 points off the bench as well.
Johnson’s 16 points was also noteworthy because he scored more points in his NBA debut than some other notable rookies in Wizards uniforms, including John Wall in the 2010-11 season.
Now, the scoring margin of this game indicates that the Wizards weren’t embarrassed tonight. But the reality was that the Wizards never led in this game and the Bucks took Washington out of this game early, outscoring them 40-23 in the first quarter as they shot 60 percent from the field while the Wizards only shot 33 percent. The Wizards were able to get the scoring margin under 20 points for most of the game, but the Bucks never let Washington have a chance to make things that interesting.
The Wizards’ next game is on Friday when they go on the road to play the Dallas Mavericks. Tip off is at 8:30 p.m. ET. See you then.
