But the first pressure is starting to be applied on the on-loan [Albion](https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/albion/?ref=au) striker from media as he seeks his first Roma goal.
Ferguson returned from another goalscoring international window and was briefly part of a 1-0 home defeat by Inter in Serie A on Saturday.
It is unclear whether he starts tonight as they host Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.
Artem Dovbyk is also an option for the No.9 berth although Roma went for a more lightweight attack against Inter, led by Paola Dybala.
Ferguson entered the action on 80 minutes without success.
Speaking on eve of the Europa clash, Roma head coach Gian Pierro Gasperini said: “It's now necessary, in Italy and Europe, to rotate multiple attackers.
“This is the effect of post-Covid football with five substitutions. You can't talk about starters or reserves.
“By playing every three days, you have the opportunity to use both and deploy more players, especially in attack.
“Just look at the match reports and substitutions."
TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook suggested in a transfer-related bulletin on Wednesday that Roma could be looking to cut short their season-long deal for Ferguson and bring in Joshua Zirkzee from Manchester United instead.
There was no mention of that in an assessment of the situation by leading Italian sports newspaper and website La Gazzetta Dello Sport.
But their analysis of Gasperini’s summer additions, including Ferguson and with the one exception of right-back Wesley, was unfavourable.
Their reporter Andrea Pugliese wrote: “The Irishman has played eight out of nine games, missing only the Fiorentina match and starting four times.
“But, while his first steps were encouraging, the last month has seen him lose recognition and minutes.
“Gasperini expects him to be more effective in front of goal, to shoot better, and to become even more effective.”
After seven rounds of Serie A, Roma are not badly placed, in fourth spot just one point behind leaders Milan.
But they are the lowest scorers in the top half of the table with just seven goals compared to, for example, Inter on 18.
They also drew a blank last time out in Europe, losing 1-0 at home to Lille on a night when Ferguson started up front and did his work but had precious little service.
Corriere Dello Sport believe Ferguson “is struggling to find confidence and score goals”.
