However, Leeds remain desperate to avoid a season like the 2022/23 when they were relegated from the Premier League after a disastrous campaign where they had as many as three managers.
The Leeds supporters have not forgiven the players who walked away from Leeds following their relegation, and two of them were at the wrong end of a Champions League hammering on Wednesday night.
Champions League hammering vindicates Leeds United transfer call
Liverpool came back to winning ways on Wednesday night when they handed out a 5-1 Champions League hammering to Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.
The Bundesliga side took the early lead in the game. However, Leeds scored three in the first half and two more after the break to produce a huge performance away from home in Europe.
Eintracht’s defence collapsed under sustained Liverpool pressure, and two ex-Leeds United players in the back-four had a woeful time against the Premier League champions.
Rasmus Kristensen and Robin Koch were part of the Eintracht defence that was put to the sword by a Liverpool side smarting from four defeats in a row.
Kristensen did score the early goal, but he and Koch didn’t play well enough to keep Liverpool at bay, and they eventually collapsed 5-1 at home.
Eintracht have made a poor start to the season, and the defence is their problem
They finished third in the league and secured Champions League qualification last season. However, this year, they have been shoddy, winning three, losing three and drawing one of their opening seven league games.
Eintracht have conceded a staggering 18 goals in their opening seven league games. They lost 3-0 at home against Bayern Munich earlier this month and conceded four in an away win over Borussia Monchengladbach.
They also conceded three in a defeat at Bayer Leverkusen, who have also been struggling, earlier in the season. Dino Toppmoller’s side have the worst defensive record in the Bundesliga at the moment.
Eintracht have scored six more goals in the league than their xG. However, that has been negated by the fact that they conceded six more than they should have.
The 5-1 Champions League defeat against Liverpool was not an anomaly, as the German club were also thrashed 5-1 by Atletico Madrid.
Koch and Kristensen are part of an Eintracht defence who are conceding goals for fun, and Leeds are feeling a sense of deja vu.
The duo were also in the Leeds defence that looked frail and broken during the 2022/23 Premier League season, when they were relegated.
