**Nuno Espirito Santo has a lot of work to do on the training pitch as Konstantinos Mavropanos’ potential injury would leave West Ham with three poor central defenders.**
West Ham United’s dire defending situation isn’t getting any better, with the Brentford result showing how poor we were on the pitch, as well as the injury that the Hammers have sustained to arguably the best central defender we have at the club, adding to the woes.
From being dismissed and wanting to be sold, Konstantinos Mavropanos is now being classed as one of the best central defenders we have which truly emphasises the defensive issues we are currently facing and proves that there’s much to worry about.
Mavropanos made his way off the pitch after sustaining an injury which required him to be picked up by the stretcher, subsequently leaving the Hammers to play the closing minutes of the game with 10 men.
Nuno Espirito Santo provided an update regarding the Greek international ahead of the match against Leeds tomorrow night.
“Dinos is injured. He came off, and he now has a scan to see the injury he has. I don’t know exactly how long he’ll be out, but he’ll be missing on Friday.”
West Ham are now left with just three senior central defenders, those being Todibo, Kilman and Igor. Igor hasn’t been given a real chance at West Ham yet, but Nuno seems more keen to use him than Potter was, so maybe he will see him start.
Igor is also said to be proving himself in training, but wasn’t even able to find the bench on Monday night. Subsequently, leaving you to assume that Nuno would lineup with both Todibo and Kilman on Friday night and just hope that they are to perform a lot better than they did just a few days ago.
There’s always the potential of seeing a youth player being brought into the first team, perhaps if the situation were to get worse, Nuno could look to introduce Airidas Golambeckis, who recently signed a new contract and has also worked with the youth staff that Nuno himself has recently promoted to within the first team.
West Ham fans now await the worrying news of Mavropanos and can only hope that the injury isn’t as bad as it looked on the London Stadium pitch.
