Bayern Munich have been a little worried over Vincent Kompany and a potential approach from Manchester City in the future.
That’s according to TZ, who explain a possible approach is one of the reasons for Bayern securing Kompany’s long-term future.
Kompany’s contract was set to expire in 2027 and earlier this week Bayern Munich extended it until 2029.
Pep Guardiola’s contract lasts until 2027 and he’s expected to continue at the Etihad until then. Bayern Munich were concerned the Premier League club could look to replace Guardiola with the Belgian in 2027.
Kompany guided the Bavarian club to title success last season, and they are currently leading the Bundesliga table. After multiple doubts last year, when the Belgian was considered fortunate to have got the job, the situation has calmed.
In order to avoid a potential future approach from Manchester City, Bayern Munich made an ‘urgent decision’ to extended Kompany’s contract.
If Guardiola were to leave in 2027, Manchester City could still try to lure Kompany but will have to negotiate with Bayern Munich.
