Liverpool player "has to be" in the XI vs Brentford after making "big difference" - James Pearce

**Journalist James Pearce has called for one Liverpool player to start against Brentford this weekend, having made a “big difference” in the 5-1 win away to Eintracht Frankfurt.**

The Reds returned to winning ways on Wednesday evening, picking up an impressive victory in Germany to aid their Champions League qualification hopes.

There was a goal for Hugo Ekitike on his return to Frankfurt, with Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai also scoring, while Florian Wirtz registered two assists.

It was a night where many Liverpool players shone, including Andy Robertson, who produced a mature performance in place of Milos Kerkez, assisting Ekitike for the Reds’ equaliser.

Writing on [_X_](https://x.com/JamesPearceLFC/status/1981131871229489415), Pearce claimed that the Scot deserves to keep his place for the Premier League champions’ trip to Brentford on Saturday night:

_“That was Andy Robertson’s first Liverpool start for a month and he made a big difference. Pass of the night to create the equaliser for Hugo Ekitike. Left side looked so much better. Has to be in the line up at Brentford on Saturday.”_

**Robertson over Kerkez against Brentford?**

Robertson may not be the player he was at his peak, but on Wednesday’s evidence, he is a safer pair of hands than Kerkez at the moment, with the Hungarian poor in last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester United.

The 21-year-old hasn’t got going in a Liverpool shirt yet since arriving from Bournemouth, and keeping him out of the firing line for what has the potential to be a tough game against Brentford makes sense.

The Bees are in good form, winning two of their last three league games, and Robertson’s vast experience could be key under the lights in west London.

This isn’t writing Kerkez off by any means, with the youngster still a maturing player who should only improve, but a stint out of the team feels like it could be best for all concerned.

Robertson isn’t perfect these days – he wasn’t great for Frankfurt’s goal on Wednesday – but at a time when Liverpool need steadying influences in the team, he needs to be playing more than his younger teammate.
