Estevao Willian explains how'sensational'Chelsea player actually surprised him during Ajax victory

Chelsea wonderkid Estevao Willian had a night to remember on Wednesday after scoring his first Champions League goal.

Chelsea beat Ajax 5-1 in Europe’s elite competition, with the winger managing to get his name on the scoresheet from the penalty spot.

Following the full-time whistle at Stamford Bridge, Jorrel Hato compared Estevao to Lamine Yamal, which is huge praise.

While the 18-year-old is being lauded right now, he has also taken some time to say some positive things about one of his other teammates.

Estevao Willian surprised Enzo Fernandez gave him penalty kick

Enzo Fernandez was one of Chelsea’s other goalscorers on Wednesday, and Estevao has described the midfielder as a “sensational guy”.

However, he also admitted that he was surprised that Fernandez allowed him to take Chelsea’s second penalty.

Speaking to TNT Sports Brasil after the Blues’ victory over Ajax, Estevao said: “Enzo (Fernandez) is a sensational guy, he gave me the opportunity to take the penalty. I didn’t expect him to let me take it, because he had scored the first goal, I thought, ‘He’s going to want another one’.

“But I looked at him, he gave me the ball, and I was very happy. This really reflects our group, very united, very hard-working, we help each other. I’m very happy to have helped Chelsea.”

The Brazilian started on the right against John Heitinga’s men, but he could play elsewhere in the future.

Enzo Maresca has hinted that he could change Estevao’s position going forward and move him into the No.10 position.

With Cole Palmer still out injured, now may be a good time to experiment. That being said, with Estevao thriving on the right flank at present, Maresca may not want to tinker with things.

Eidur Gudjohnsen on Estevao Willian and Enzo Fernandez’s penalty moment

Chelsea legend Eidur Gudjohnsen was at Stamford Bridge to watch his old side thrash Ajax and move up the Champions League table.

Despite being a forward in his playing days, he had no problem witnessing Fernandez give up a potential goal for the sake of his teammate.

As Gudjohnsen discussed Estevao’s penalty and the moment where it was handed to him, he said: “I love to see that. I love to see this as well. What confidence in the penalty.”

The Brazil international and Fernandez could get more opportunities from the spot in the coming weeks, with regular penalty taker Cole Palmer not expected to be back for a while.

It is a blow, but the Blues are coping in the absence of their main man.
