Aston Villa are back in action on Thursday as the in-form Villans take on Go Ahead Eagles in the Europa League. Unai Emery's side are chasing a third consecutive League Phase victory as their European journey continues to grow momentum.

That form has now been matched in the Premier League, with Villa unbeaten in their last five matches, having won their last three league games.

Some of the players within the squad look set to be rewarded with extended contracts, with Morgan Rogers, Matty Cash and captain John McGinn all understood to be subject to pending new deals.

But in a couple a months, Emery will be able to dip back into the transfer market when the January window opens. Birmingham LIVE has taken a look at the latest transfer rumours surrounding the club.

Mateo Kovacic

Villa have been named as one of the clubs reportedly interested in the services of Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic. The Croatian international is not in talks over a new contract and has now seen his playing opportunities limited under Pep Guardiola.

According to CaughtOffside, Villa are potential suitors for the 31-year-old, alongside West Ham United, but AC Milan are claimed to be leading the race for his signature, where he could be reunited with his compariot Luka Modric.

Takefusa Kubo

Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo was linked with a move to Villa Park in the summer, but ultimately opted to stay with the Basque club. However, a move elsewhere could be back on the cards after it emerged that the Japanese international is "disappointed" the current management of the club, citing a lack of recruitment and ambition.

Sociedad are currently in the relegation zone after nine matches, having only won once in LaLiga all season. Spanish outlet Fichajes reports Kubo as saying: "I have a contract, but you never know."

Luis Milla

Unai Emery is know to generally prefer younger players in his squad, so it may come as something of a surprise that Villa have been linked with a move for veteran midfielder Luis Milla.

The 31-year-old Getafe playmaker has a good reputation in Spain and according to reports from Fichajes, he has been tracked by Villa for several months. It is claimed that Emery is a long-time admirer of the way that Milla can control a game and move possession forward under pressure.

Samuel Aghehowa

Villa are still in the race for FC Porto' star Samuel Aghehowa, known in Portugal as Samu, but any deal for the sought-after attacker will have it's challanges.

A Bola claimed on Wednesday that Villa only missed out on the Spaniard because of PSR rules last summer.

A host of other Premier League clubs have been linked with Samu, including Chelsea, Spurs and Newcastle United, but Villa remains a possible destination.

The sticking point is the 21-year-old's reported £87 million release clause, although it is hoped that he could be allowed to leave for a lower fee.
