Christantus Uche’s move to Crystal Palace this summer is now being questioned in Spain, as he struggles to make an impact at Selhurst Park.
[Estadio Deportivo](https://www.estadiodeportivo.com/futbol/premier-league/christantus-uche-busqueda-recuperar-protagonismo-20251023-517587.html) and [Marca](https://www.marca.com/futbol/premier-league/2025/10/23/christantus-uche-termina-arrancar-palace.html) both cover the player today. And there’s questions being asked about the move.
Estadio kick things off, reporting that Uche is ‘looking to regain prominence’ after a difficult start with Crystal Palace. He’s gone from being a key player at Getafe to playing for Palace’s U21’s this week.
The move was supposed to be a ‘gradual adaptation’ to English football. Instead, he’s only managed seven minutes across two games. That led to Glasner sending him to the U21s.
Uche is seemingly frustrated and showed that on Instagram. He changed his profile picture to a turned off light bulb. That’s been interpreted as a message about his current situation.
Getafe will certainly be concerned as the loan deal includes a mandatory purchase clause if Uche plays ten games. That ‘seems far off’ at this moment in time.
Marca say similar, reporting that Uche has ‘quite hit his stride’ at Crystal Palace so far. They say he’s yet to show what he did at Getafe, after one of the biggest soap operas of the summer transfer window.
Now he’s found himself playing for the U21s. That’s hardly living the dream he had of Premier League football.
The newspaper then cover his transfer clause. According to them, the €20m fee only needs to be paid when he plays 10 matches with 45 minutes of actions. He’s far off that.
We would point out, though, that the clause has been changing repeatedly since he signed from Getafe. A report yesterday put it at 20 appearances, while Marca have now added the 45-minute condition as well.
It’s all a bit of a mess, and the consensus in Spain seems to be that the transfer is turning out to be a bit of a disaster.
