It may not take too long for Chelsea winger Estevao Willian to match Eden Hazard’s Champions League goal record.
For as good a player as Hazard was, his statistics in Europe’s elite competition were quite disappointing.
Following his goal against Ajax on Wednesday night, Chelsea’s new rising star is already chasing the Belgian down.

Estevao Willian will surpass Eden Hazard’s underwhelming Champions League numbers
There is no doubt that Hazard is one of the greatest ever players in Premier League history. However, his success in English football’s top flight never translated over to the Champions League.
In total, the Chelsea legend was only able to score eight goals for Chelsea in Europe’s elite competition, meaning that Estevao is already just seven goals behind him.
Still only 18 years of age, the Brazilian should surpass that tally easily, especially with the new Champions League format where teams are playing more games.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea were a very strong team, but they lacked truly elite attackers.
Other than Hazard and Diego Costa, the Blues did not really have any other world-class offensive players during the 34-year-old’s peak.
Willian and Pedro were terrific wingers on their day, but both men lacked consistency, at least when it came to producing in the final third.
With all of that in mind, it is understandable that Hazard did have his struggles in various Champions League campaigns.
Nevertheless, his record in the competition is still underwhelming and he is now likely to watch Estevao surpass it with ease.
Hazard recently participated in a charity game, but had it not been for so many injuries at Real Madrid, he may have been playing in the Champions League today.

Eden Hazard’s overall Champions League record
Hazard did not fare much better at Real Madrid and Lille in the Champions League, though the retired Belgium international was still a very young player when he was at the latter.
As a Real Madrid player, Hazard could only come up with two goals in 17 games. At Lille, he failed to score at all after making six appearances in the competition.
It means his overall record stands at 10 goals and 15 assists in 61 Champions League games. Estevao should have no trouble surpassing that.
