Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards breaks franchise record held by Kat, Kg

Anthony Edwards has already arrived, so it's not as simple as saying that he has officially arrived after a monster opening night for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

But consider this a reminder: Edwards is one of the best basketball players on the planet. And a warning: Edwards might be even more primed than ever to take the NBA by storm this season.

Edwards was the shining light of the Timberwolves' season opener. He dropped 41 points, with pretty much every one of them needed in a 118-114 win over the Portland Trail Blazers late on Wednesday.

He wasn't shy in getting there, taking 28 shots from the field and making 14. Edwards was also a spotless 8-for-8 from the foul line.

In the process, he set a new Timberwolves record for points in a season opener, according to NBA Communications.

Kevin Garnett had held this mark for a while, having scored 34 points to begin the 1999-2000 season.

Karl-Anthony Towns took it for himself in the 2019-20 season opener when he put up 36 points.

And now Ant has it for himself.

It's fitting that Edwards took this mark, because he seems like the guy who will sooner or later end up holding all sorts of records in Timberwolves history, as long as he sticks around Minnesota.

There also surely will be games like this as this season goes along, ones where the Wolves have no choice but to keep giving the ball to Edwards, letting him shoot, and knowing good things will probably happen.

On this night, as often will be the case, great things happened.
