Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller is a player that Manchester United are monitoring before the January transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano, despite false reports of a late move this summer.
The 24-year-old was one of many defensive midfielders linked with a switch to Old Trafford this summer. It was widely reported that United were seeking out replacements for Casemiro, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
Carlos Baleba's £100million valuation from Brighton forced United to cool their interest in him, while Sporting CP man Morten Hjulmand and Adam Wharton were linked. However, Stiller emerged as a late option as the window approached its closure.
It has been reported that Stiller has a release clause in his contract in Germany, though Stuttgart are believed to have the option to buy him out of that clause for £2million. Sky Sport Germany has reported that the Bundesliga outfit will ask for more than £43million when the window opens.
Now, speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano has revealed that no talks have been held between United and Stuttgart just yet, but there is genuine interest held. "I'm always receiving many questions on Angelo Stiller, there was a report from Bild in the last few days on Manchester United tracking the player," he said.
"Manchester United have always been following this player and Angelo Stiller is really appreciated internally. Last summer, we had some stories about Manchester United going on a mission to Germany negotiating to sign Stiller as a surprise for the final weeks.

"No, Manchester United never started any negotiations for Angelo Stiller in August last summer. That was never a possibility. It was always impossible.
"Stiller was always going to stay at Stuttgart in the summer transfer window, especially in August, so there was no chance to change the story in the final days of the window.
"But Angelo still remains a player monitored by Manchester United. They are following him.
"They are closely monitoring his progress. Again, at the moment, there's no negotiation, no talks."
