'Would be great': Crysencio Summerville sets himself a personal target with Leeds United up next

Friday night’s clash between Leeds United and West Ham United will see Crysencio Summerville return to Elland Road for the first time since leaving Daniel Farke’s side in 2024.

Having won the Championship’s Player of the Season award in 2023-24 with Leeds after a campaign that saw Summerville produce north of 30 goals and assists. It earned him a £34m move to West Ham.

The Hammers paid £25m up front, while Leeds could receive a further £9m in add-ons. Just over half is believed to be performance-related, while another £4m will arrive when he wins his first Netherlands cap.

On Friday, Summerville is expected to start for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, with Nuno expecting a “tough” game at Elland Road under the lights. Now, Summerville has been discussing his goalscoring duck.

After an injury-ravaged first season at West Ham that resulted in just 22 appearances, Summerville is having more of an impact this time around. In his six outings so far, Summerville has two assists.

But his solitary goal in a Hammers shirt came against Man United on October 24. Indeed, Summerville is four days shy of going a year without a goal. He told West Ham’s website that he hopes to end that soon.

“I’ve stayed fit, and now I just want to keep improving and have a big impact in the rest of the season. It’s been nearly a year since I scored for the Club, so it would be great to get on the scoresheet soon, too.”

Jayden Bogle v Crysencio Summerville will be a key battle

Summerville has started all three games under Nuno since the Portuguese gaffer took over at West Ham and the chances are, he will start on Friday night. It means he will come up against Jayden Bogle.

A mouthwatering battle between a current Leeds fan favourite and a former one. The one bit of insight Daniel Farke can provide for Bogle this week in training is to show Summerville onto his left foot.

Summerville’s best season came under Farke, and it saw the pocket-sized winger cut inside on his right foot, time after time. Bogle, Ethan Ampadu, and Joe Rodon must attempt to limit Summerville’s space.

Especially, having allowed Loum Tchaouna plenty of space to unleash a 25-yard drive that flew past Karl Darlow. One advantage Leeds will have is that Bogle may find a bit of space going forward on the right.
