Real Madrid legend Luis Figo has added excitement ahead of Sunday’s El Clasico by firmly backing Los Blancos to claim victory over Barcelona.
The Portuguese icon, who represented both clubs during his illustrious career, believes that Real Madrid’s home advantage and attacking strength will be decisive in what promises to be another thrilling encounter at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Sharing his prediction, Figo expressed full confidence in Xabi Alonso’s men.
“I would say that Real Madrid will win 3-1. I give them the edge because they are playing at home.
“And this result, well, so that it will be a spectacular game with goals,” said the former Ballon d’Or winner, as quoted by SPORT.
Highlighting Real Madrid’s motivation and quality
The former Real Madrid star further justified his prediction by pointing out that the squad’s motivation will be higher than ever after Barcelona’s dominance last season.
“It will be motivation for Real Madrid if they focus only on what happened last season.
“But I really believe that you start from scratch every new season, with new goals, new signings… A Clasico is unpredictable,” Figo explained.
The Portuguese legend also reflected on some of his past teammates and rivals. “Zidane would have fit in well at Barça.

“From Barcelona to Real Madrid, perhaps Sergio Ramos or Puyol who were great defenders. Or even Guardiola.
“I think all the players at Barça and Real Madrid could fit in at the rival club because they are always great players, as Ronaldo did,” Figo shared.
Praise for Zinedine Zidane
Figo, who played alongside many future managers such as Pep Guardiola, Luis Enrique, and Raúl, admitted that Zinedine Zidane’s transition to coaching surprised him the most.
“I didn’t expect it from Zidane, because of the way he is. He’s nothing like a player as a coach, so I was surprised when I heard he wanted to coach,” said the Portuguese icon.
Having proudly worn both shirts during each club’s centenary year, Figo concluded with a note of appreciation.
“If there’s one thing I really liked about Real Madrid and Barça, it’s that I played for both of them in their centenary year, and I keep both jerseys as fond memories.”
While Figo has fond memories of his time with both sides, his confidence in Real Madrid ahead of this El Clasico speaks volumes.
With Xabi Alonso’s men in strong form and backed by a packed Bernabeu, Figo’s prediction feels more than just hopeful.
