Sunderland star ruled out of Chelsea game as Regis Le Bris reveals major blow

SUNDERLAND have been dealt a major blow ahead of Saturday's trip to Chelsea with Omar Alderete ruled out because of concussion.

Alderete clashed heads with Marshall Munetsi during the weekend win over Wolves.

The central defender, who has shone for the [Black Cats](http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/football/sunderland?ref=au) in the early stages of the Premier League campaign, is being monitored daily and Sunderland will decide next week whether he's available to return for the visit of Everton a week on Monday.

"He's under concussion protocols with daily assessments," said Le Bris in his pre-match press conference.

"We'll keep monitoring his progress through this week and into the next one to see if he's available for Everton."

Alderete's absence means Le Bris will again be forced to shuffle his defence at Stamford Bridge, though Sunderland will be boosted by the return of Reinildo, who has now completed his three-match ban after his sending off at Aston Villa.

That gives Le Bris the opportunity to restore Reinildo to the starting XI, move Trai Hume back to the right side of the defence and play Nordi Mukiele and Dan Ballard at centre-half. But Lutsharel Geertruida will also be hoping for the opportunity to make his first Premier League start.

The 25-year-old has come off the bench in the last five Premier League games.
