Dallas Cowboys star edge rusher DeMarvion Overshown was having a stellar season in 2024 when he suffered a massively brutal injury. He secured one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, five sacks, and 90 combined tackles before tearing his ACL, MCL, and PCL. With his return imminent, the linebacker has sent a major warning to the NFL.
Overshown was on pace for a Defensive Player of the Year nod in 2024 before his leg was heavily injured. There were concerns that he would not even play in 2025. However, he is officially close to taking the field once again.
The Cowboys’ defense has been a pain point in 2025, especially in terms of the pass rush, which is in large part due to the confusing trade of Micah Parsons.
With Overshown having his 21-day practice window opened and his return imminent, the star linebacker spoke about his recovery and sent out a major warning for his goals in half a season.
Overshown joined Jordan Schultz to speak about his injury, and he stated that he plans to hit the ground running when he steps on the field.
“As I was walking off the field, actually, some of the first words to my trainer were ‘Let me know the timeline, let me know what I gotta do, and I gotta beat it.” He said, ‘It might not be a 2025 season for you, but a guy like you, I can have you back by mid-season if that’s what you really wanna do.” I told him, ‘That’s what I really wanna do,'” Overshown said.
Overshown also stated that he refused to get carted off the field. He chose to walk as best as he could. The Cowboys’ star defender then promised that he plans to win a very coveted award if he is eligible.
“I don’t know the requirements of Comeback Player of the Year, how long you gotta play, or how many games, but that is what I’m chasing. I’m coming in primed up,” Overshown said.
Overshown may not be eligible for the Comeback Player of the Year award, but he can surely make noise from the moment he steps onto the field. With the pace that he had in 2024, it is believed that he can return to proper form.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stated the team may not look for a big defensive trade, or any trade, and it could be that Overshown’s return signals a big turn for the team’s weaker defense.
