'Just the start': Archie Gray reacts to something Leeds United have announced this week

Leeds United announced Harry Gray’s first professional contract at Elland Road this week, and his elder brother Archie Gray has finally responded on Instagram today.

Having turned 17 at the start of the month, Leeds have moved quickly to tie Gray down to professional terms and ward off interest from the likes of Tottenham, Man City, Newcastle United, and Aston Villa.

Leeds are desperate to keep Gray and see him maximise his potential in an Elland Road shirt. The 17-year-old made his debut against Stoke last season and has been on the bench for Premier League games.

With the 21s, Gray has already bagged himself nine goals and assists this season, before a hip injury halted his progress. Now back in training, Leeds have tied Gray down until the summer of 2028.

Leeds would have obviously liked to offer Gray a longer-term deal, but FIFA rules limit clubs from offering players under the age of 17 a deal longer than three years. The chances are, when 18, he gets a new deal.

For now, it sees interest in Gray dissipate with Leeds unwilling to consider Gray as a sale to boost their PSR position. Older brother Archie was sold for PSR purposes, in a £40m deal to Tottenham in 2024.

Leeds’ inability to get promoted in Daniel Farke’s first season meant sales were necessary and Gray was sold. Archie finally reacted to Harry’s new deal on Instagram after playing for Spurs against Monaco.

Harry Gray is closing on a Premier League debut at Leeds United

Currently, Gray is probably considered the club’s fourth-choice striker behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Joel Piroe and Lukas Nmecha. If Farke was without those three, he may even consider Noah Okafor first.

But Okafor, Calvert-Lewin and Nmecha are all known for their injuries and it would be miraculous if all three came through the season without an injury. Okafor is already a doubt for West Ham on Friday.

Gray is aiming for a Premier League debut, and has been learning from Calvert-Lewin in preparation for that. With Piroe also a possible sale come January, Gray is getting closer to a Premier League debut.
