FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WSMV) - Officer bodycam footage reveals new details of the former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler’s arrest in October 2024.
The Franklin Police Department released the footage on Thursday, and it includes video from the body cameras on two of the responding officers, the day Cutler rear-ended an SUV on Bridge Street.
The driver of the SUV explains how Cutler rear-ended him at a nearby intersection, and then tried to drive away, but ended up going down a dead-end street, and was trapped:
**Driver:** “He tried to get away.”
**FPD Officer:** “How so?”
**Driver:** “He was behind me, he ran into me. So, I’m on the phone, talking to the dispatcher, then he whoops around, but he comes to a dead end. That’s how he ended up right here. We was up there at the light. He ran until he couldn’t go nowhere.”
**FPD Officer:** “Ok, I see.”
Officer body cameras captured the former NFL quarterback's DUI arrest on October 17, 2024.
The officers are about to let Cutler and the other driver handle it themselves when Cutler’s body language catches the eye of one of them:
**FPD Officer:** “Hey, sir, can I ask you a question? How much alcohol have you had today?”
**Cutler:** “Uh, none.”
**FPD Officer:** “Don’t lie to me. I’m an advanced roadside impairment detection enforcement officer. How much alcohol have you had today?”
**Cutler:** “Umm, a little bit.”
**FPD Officer:** “Ok. Are you willing to do some field sobriety tests for me to make sure you’re ok to drive?”
**Cutler:** “No.”
The officer immediately handcuffs Cutler and walks him over to the patrol car, and places him in the backseat.
He was charged with driving under the influence, possessing a gun while intoxicated, failure to exercise due care, and implied consent.
One of the arrest affidavits stated that Cutler offered the other driver $2,000 not to call the police and to let him drive away. Additionally, a loaded Glock pistol was discovered in his truck’s center console.
Cutler agreed to a plea deal in August, where he would plead guilty to DUI, but the other charges would be dropped.
The Williamson County judge required him to pay a $350 fine and serve 4 days at the Williamson County Jail by the end of September, which he did.

He is also on unsupervised probation for one year and must attend a DUI safety class. His Tennessee license was also revoked.
The other driver would go on to sue Cutler a few days later, saying he suffered injuries from the incident and is seeking $25,000 for compensatory damages.
Cutler played quarterback for the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins over a span of 12 years in the NFL. He played college ball at Vanderbilt University.
He was the 1st round pick of the Broncos in the 2006 NFL Draft (11th overall).
