Running back Jahmyr Gibbs was thunder and lightning in the Detroit Lions’ 24-9 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night.
The former Alabama ball-carrier recorded 17 rushing attempts for 136 yards and two touchdowns and three receptions for 82 yards. Gibbs became the first player in Detroit history with at least 135 rushing yards and 80 receiving yards in the same game, which has been accomplished 33 times in the NFL.
On Monday night, Gibbs scored on a 78-yard run, the longest play from scrimmage in his NFL career. Along the way, he reached a speed of 22.23 mph, as measured by NFL Next Gen Stats.
Gibbs’ top speed was the fastest of any ball-carrier during Week 7 of the NFL’s 2025 season and the third-fastest of the campaign so far.
Only one other player is ahead of Gibbs on the 2025 speed chart. The fastest ball-carrier this season in the NFL has been Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, who hit 22.38 mph on a 43-yard reception in Week 2 against the Denver Broncos before being pushed out of bounds by former Alabama All-American Patrick Surtain II.
Gibbs has the second-fastest speed of the season at 22.34 mph on a 42-yard run in Week 2 against the Chicago Bears.

Gibbs’ work on Monday night also earned the Angry Runs scepter presented weekly on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” by Kyle Brandt.
Gibbs’ power and tenacity on a fourth-and-1 run on the first snap of the fourth quarter caught Brandt’s eye.
Detroit went for it on the 50-yard line and tried to trick the Buccaneers with an end-around option. Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown pitched the football to Gibbs, but Tampa Bay had diagnosed the play and appeared to have the running back trapped in the backfield along the sideline. But Gibbs bulled his way to the necessary 1 yard for a first down.
Gibbs ranks fifth in rushing yards with 526 and yards from scrimmage with 720 and tied for third in touchdowns with seven in the NFL this season.
Gibbs and the Lions return to action against the Minnesota Vikings at noon CST Nov. 2 at Ford Field in Detroit. The Lions do not play in Week 8.
