Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford has revealed that he previously held talks with Barcelona about a move to La Liga, but a transfer did not materialise until this year.
After spending the second half of last season on loan with Aston Villa, Rashford completed a season-long loan move to Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
After bursting onto the scene at United, Rashford found himself out in the cold under Ruben Amorim, leading to his moves away from the club.
He has, however, revealed that this summer wasn't the first time that a possible move to Barcelona had come about.
"I just believe that things happen when they're supposed to happen," he told ESPN.
"It's not the first time I spoke with Barcelona about potentially coming here, but for whatever reasons it didn't happen in the past and now is my opportunity to make it happen.
"I feel like there's no time like the present now. So I just take things day to day.
"The key thing for me is just to continue to improve because when you retire, you're going to miss everything -- the good stuff, the bad stuff -- you're going to miss it about the sport.
"Every day I just take it day by day and just try to improve from the day before."

Barca have an option to make the move permanent in the summer, although Spanish outlet Sport report that the club are willing to wait before rushing into a decision on a potential move.
Rashford has made his stance clear on his future, stating that he is keen to stay at the club beyond his loan deal and that it is an 'honour' to pull on the shirt.
"Oh yeah, for sure," he said, when asked whether he wants to stay.
"I'm enjoying this football club and I think for anybody who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in the history of the game. For a player is an honour."
After two goals in Barcelona's last clash in the Champions League against Olympiacos, Rashford will be hoping to make a similar impact in his first El Clasico clash at the weekend when Barca travel to take on Real Madrid.
Ahead of that game, Rashford has now opened up on his move from United to Barcelona: "It was so many years in one place. People forget this, but 24 years, 23 years of my life was with Manchester United.
"So sometimes you just need a change. I think maybe this is the case with me and yeah, I'm enjoying everything."
