Tottenham Hotspur are a work in progress as Thomas Frank eyes the long game
The honeymoon period seems to be over for Thomas Frank at Tottenham after a string of disappointing results in recent days. The Lilywhites started the week with a loss to Aston Villa in the Premier League at home, and it was no more than what Thomas Frank’s men deserved from that game. Things went from bad to worse for the North London club as they followed that up with an uninspiring performance against AS Monaco in the Champions League.
They were lucky to come out unscathed from the game against the Ligue 1 outfit. Spurs were clearly outplayed in all departments and were nowhere near the required level to clinch all three points in Monte-Carlo. It was Guglielmo Vicario’s heroics that kept the game goalless, with the Italian clinching the Man of the Match award for his fantastic performance between the sticks.
Tottenham Hotspur are a work in progress as Thomas Frank eyes the long game.
Thomas Frank is the right man to lead Tottenham forward despite some poor outings in recent weeks.
Frank’s pragmatic approach, which initially brought stability, now seems to be holding the team back. The recent results serve as a reminder that the Lilywhites need to rediscover their attacking intent and play on the front foot once again. With the quality that Tottenham possess in their squad, they must look to control games and dictate tempo if they are to compete on multiple fronts this season.
Thomas Frank backed to change Tottenham’s fortunes this season
Far too often, Spurs are showing excessive respect to opponent who, on paper, are weaker. Performances against Brighton, Wolves, and Bodo/Glimt have all followed a similar pattern of lacking attacking fluidity and taking on the cautious approach. This conservative approach has cost them valuable points both in the Premier League and in Europe.
However, Paul Robinson believes fans should remain patient with Thomas Frank, insisting that the progress under the Dane is already visible. Speaking on BBC Radio, Robinson said,
“I was delighted when Thomas Frank was appointed. He’s a builder. He is tactically diverse and able to adapt in games, and you are seeing a different Tottenham. It’s not going to happen overnight. You look at the squad he’s inherited and you can see his fingerprints are on it already.”
Robinson praised Frank’s adaptability and vision, noting that while Tottenham are still a work in progress, the transformation is clearly underway. The ex-Spurs player urged fans to trust the process, emphasizing that meaningful change takes time. The Dane has had a noticeable impact at N17. His tactical structure, discipline, and emphasis on team cohesion have brought a sense of direction back to a side that looked lost last season.
There is a reason why Thomas Frank is rated so highly among his peers. The Danish tactician has all the attributes to change the North London club’s fortunes around. We have to remember, Spurs are currently sixth on the Premier League table, and are unbeaten in Europe. So, there is no need to panic just yet as they are just going through a tough time right now.
