Dolphins trade idea sends Cowboys former first-round pick

At 1-6, the Miami Dolphins are likely open to parting ways with players to better the future of their team.

With several players on bloated contracts and not living up to those cap numbers, the Dolphins should be focused on finding trade partners and bringing back draft capital for their inevitable rebuild.

Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report singled out one player in particular who could be on the move ahead of the early November deadline.

Dolphins trade idea ships out Jaelan Phillips to Cowboys

According to Knox, an ideal trade candidate would be edge rusher Jaelan Phillips.

"According to [Ian] Rapoport, the Dolphins won't move star wideout Jaylen Waddle but are "far more likely" to trade one of their edge-rushers. While that could mean a deal involving Matthew Judon, Bradley Chubb or Jaelan Phillips, Phillips is the most enticing target," wrote Knox.

"The 26-year-old was a solid edge-defender when healthy early in his career and again appears healthy after injury-impacted seasons in 2023 and 2024."

The 2021 first-round pick is under contract for one more season following 2025, and could fetch a 2026 fourth-round pick, according to Knox.

In terms of potential suitors, the Dallas Cowboys are a team in desperate need of pass rush help.

After trading Micah Parsons, Dallas is severely lacking defensively, and with the extra draft capital received in the deal, they could afford to land the Dolphins' edge rusher.

Phillips would immediately become the centerpiece of the Cowboys' defensive front and help in a potential playoff push in the loaded NFC.
