'I've got faith': NBA star Larry Nance Jr. tells Dominic Calvert-Lewin how to end his goal drought

Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has received some advice on how to end his goal-scoring drought from NBA star Larry Nance Jr.

Cleveland Cavaliers star Larry Nance Jr. is a famous Leeds United fan and a member of the group of investors brought into the club by the 49ers.

Nance has now attempted to share some of the lessons he has learned in the NBA with Leeds forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin, after the Whites failed to find the net in a demoralising defeat against Burnley.

Calvert-Lewin has missed the third-most big chances in the Premier League this season, having missed five of the 14 big chances created by Leeds overall.

Now, Nance has urged the Leeds striker not to let his head drop as his side prepares for a crucial relegation clash with West Ham.

Larry Nance Jr. sends a message to Leeds United’s number nine

Speaking on the Men in Blazers podcast, Nance explained why he has sympathy for Calvert-Lewin after he drew another Premier League blank.

According to the NBA star, he went through a similarly frustrating run during the NBA pre-season before his form eventually returned, much to his relief.

Nance said: “We played four games this preseason, and I was like two for 16 from three [point attempts] throughout those four games. I couldn’t hit the ocean standing in a boat.

“It just came back to stay in your routine, right? Like water will always find its level. I’m a firm believer in that.

“So as long as he continues his runs, continues the work rate, continues to press from the back, and leads us, leads our line, I do feel confident.

“Obviously, we’ve seen him do it at the highest levels in the Premier League and, you know, he seems to be in great shape right now. So I’ve got, I’ve got faith in our guy.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has a strong track record vs West Ham

Although Calvert-Lewin has now failed to score in his previous three Leeds appearances, the forward has enjoyed some success against the Hammers in his career, according to Transfermarkt.

The former Everton man has played a total of 13 games against the Hammers, scoring six goals in the process, as a ratio of just less than a goal every other game.

His best performance came in an EFL Cup tie in the 2020/21 season, when Calvert-Lewin scored a hat-trick in a 4-1 win.

Calvert-Lewin’s most recent goal against West Ham came in the 2023/24 season, when he scored the only goal in a 1-0 win at the London Stadium.
