You will struggle to find anyone associated with Newcastle United who does not want to see Elliot Anderson back at St James’ Park.
There has been regret ever since he left Newcastle United in 2024, and now there are noises that the club are looking into the possibility of bringing him back.
Geordie Boot Boys understand that Newcastle United would love to re-sign Elliot Anderson, who remains committed to Nottingham Forest amid speculation over his future. However, that is not to say that a return to Tyneside would not appeal.
It has been reported that Anderson is interested in rejoining Newcastle United, which comes as no great surprise given he is a local lad who grew up supporting the club. Throw in his relationship with Eddie Howe, and it is easy to understand why a move back to the North East could possibly be on the cards.
The thought of the 22-year-old coming back will delight the Toon Army, while it will also be music to the ears of Toon winger Anthony Gordon.

Anthony Gordon is close friends with Newcastle United target Elliot Anderson
Just months before Elliot Anderson’s move to Nottingham Forest, Anthony Gordon conducted an interview with Gary Neville for the Overlap.
As part of the quickfire questions section of the interview, Gordon was asked to name his best friends in football.
“I’d say I’ve got three,” he said.
“Curtis Jones, Tommy Doyle, Elliot Anderson. Mixed bag there. Some club, some international.”

On Anderson, Gordon added: “He’s a top player. He is just as a young player finding his feet in the games. He’s been top in training for a while, but he’s just finding his feet.”
Not only does Gordon think that Anderson is a great player, but he also sees him as a great friend. Seeing Newcastle United bring the academy graduate back would obviously delight Gordon, who has called Tyneside his home since January 2023.
While Gordon does have a release clause in his contract, his long-term future is at Newcastle United. He signed a new deal last year, having missed out on a move to Liverpool.
The 24-year-old is settled once again at St James’ Park, and he would likely be even more settled if he got the chance to play alongside one of his best mates again.
How Anthony Gordon reacted when Newcastle United sold Elliot Anderson
There was devastation on Tyneside when Anderson left Newcastle United in 2024, joining Nottingham Forest for £35million.
The deal was done for PSR reasons, and Eddie Howe has bemoaned selling Anderson ever since.
Following his exit, the midfielder took to Instagram to deliver an emotional goodbye to the club where he grew up.
He wrote: “It’s been a dream come true to represent my club for 14 years. Pulling that black and white on at St James’ Park is a moment that will never be took away from me.
“I would like to thank everyone involved with the club and all the Geordies that have supported me throughout my journey.
“I will always support the club and wish nothing but the best for everyone involved. As one door closes another one opens. Thank you.
Anderson’s message received a reply from Gordon, who commented back: “Gunna miss you lad.”
They are now reacquainted at international level, with both players likely to go to the 2026 World Cup with England. However, Newcastle United would love it if they were club teammates as well.
