The Saints have remained steadfast in their commitment to Blake Grupe, and that didn't change after the kicker missed a long attempt last week against the Chicago Bears.
Grupe pushed his lone attempt wide right of the uprights from 53 yards out, but when asked about whether there was any growing concern after the miss, special teams coordinator Phil Galiano said "we're exactly where we were after the New England game" when Grupe went 4-for-4.
The conditions were far from ideal in Chicago, playing on a wet surface with strong gusts of wind. Galiano said the discussion about that one missed chance would be different had it not been for Grupe's five previous misses this sesason.
"You go out there in Chicago and it's 53 (yards) and the wind gusts right before the field goal happened, you brush it off," Galiano said. "But because of the prior misses before that, it's going to be discussed more. But we're comfortable with where he's at."
Grupe is now 14-for-20 on his field goal attempts this season. Three of his six misses have come from 50-plus yards. He has attempted more field goals than any NFL kicker through seven weeks, but his 70 % success rate ranks last among 33 qualifying kickers.
