Davy Jones Actor Finally Addresses Rumored 'Pirates of the Caribbean 6' Return

Among the franchises that fans desperately want another iteration of is the Pirates of the Caribbean, the talk about a sixth installment gained momentum after producer Jerry Bruckheimer and stars like Orlando Bloom gave promising updates, along with hope of Johnny Depp’s return in spite of his recent controversies. Now, another franchise veteran, Bill Nighy, who played antagonist Davy Jones, has spoken about reprising his iconic character.

Davy Jones was the bane of Jack Sparrow (Depp), Elisabeth (Keira Knightley), and Will Turner’s (Bloom) existence in Dead Man's Chestand At World's End, and had a brief cameo in the end-credits scene of Dead Men Tell No Tales. Jones stands among the most iconic villains in cinematic history with his brilliant performance and ahead-of-its-time CGI that still holds up today. When recently asked by Screen Rant about his return to the franchise, Nighy affirmed he "would love to go back" and revealed there were even talks to have him continue in the series:

I did think that there might be [more]. It was mentioned at one point, in fact, when one of the producers said to me, "How would you like to come back? How would you like to come back without the tentacles?" And I said, "Well, yeah, that would be great."

Bill Nighy Is Returning to Another Fan-Favorite Franchise

Nighy has had a long and illustrious career; nonetheless, many fans today know him from his performance as Davy Jones or the Minister of Magic, Rufus Scrimgeour, in the Harry Potter films. Now Nighy is returning to the Wizarding World thanks to Audible's Harry Potterfull-cast audiobook, wherein he’ll voice the head of the Slytherin house and potion master Professor Slughorn. “I was pleased to be asked to play the Professor after having already played a Minister of Magic. Is it possible that I’m the only actor who can claim that achievement? It means that my career continues to have meaning for the next couple of generations. I’m always grateful when asked to play academics having not been further educated myself. I’m hoping to be a significant part of something that will keep children entertained in the car on those long journeys overseas or just on the way to school,” the actor shared his excitement in a statement.

The entire Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is streaming on Disney+. Meanwhile, you can check out Nighy in the new Harlan Coben series***Lazarus,***and stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
