Bengals Captain Suddenly Requests Trade Before Jets Matchup

Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson has requested a trade ahead of this year’s deadline, according to team insider Ben Baby of ESPN.

Wilson was named a team captain before the start of the 2025 season and has started all seven of the team’s games so far. That said, his role started to take a hit over the past two weeks as rookie LBs Barrett Carter and Demetrius Knight Jr. saw an increased share of defensive snaps.

Wilson took the field for just 19.7% of the Bengals’ defensive snaps in a Week 6 loss to the Green Bay Packers. In a Week 7 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers this past weekend, the sixth-year linebacker played 47.5% percent of defensive snaps.

Through his seven appearances this season, Wilson has recorded 41 total tackles, four passes defended and one fumble recovery. He’s recorded at least 100 totals tackles in each of his previous four seasons with Cincinnati.

Wilson joined the NFL ranks as a third-round pick for the Bengals in the 2020 NFL draft. He was named one of seven team captains before his sixth campaign with the Bengals, joining QB Joe Burrow, WR Ja’Marr Chase, C Ted Karras, LT Orlando Brown Jr., DE Trey Hendrickson and DT B.J. Hill.

“I always looked at myself as a leader by example,” Wilson said at the time. “I’m not the rah-rah type that gets you going energy type of guy. I’m just going to lead by example, play at a high level, do the same things the right way.

“Wearing the green dot, you’re literally looking at me for the call. You’re the middle man between the back-end guys and the front guys. It’s important to have people on the same page. I’ve taken a lot of pride in that over the years as I’ve grown into that role.”

The Bengals will face off against the New York Jets in a Week 8 matchup on Sunday.

The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 4.
