Packers’ Christian Watson Ready for Comeback After ACL Tear

Green Bay, WI — The Packers’ offense could be getting a major spark this Sunday night in Pittsburgh. After nearly 10 months on the sidelines, wide receiver Christian Watson appears ready to make his long-awaited return from an ACL tear suffered in Green Bay’s regular-season finale against the Chicago Bears last January.

Watson Nears Activation from the PUP List

The 25-year-old receiver has been steadily progressing through rehab and is now nearing activation from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, according to Packers.com’s latest injury report. Head coach Matt LaFleur hinted earlier this week that Watson could be a “go” against the Steelers — a welcome sign for quarterback Jordan Love, who’s been operating with a young but promising receiving corps.

“I feel like just me being out there is going to help open everybody up,” Watson said Wednesday. “Defenses have to respect my ability to beat them deep. It just gives our offense another element they have to prepare for.”

A Proven Playmaker Ready to Return

In his first 38 career games, Watson has tallied 98 receptions for 1,653 yards and 14 touchdowns, flashing elite speed and vertical playmaking that can stretch opposing defenses. His return could take pressure off Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and first-round rookie Matthew Golden, giving Love a full complement of targets for one of the toughest road environments in football.

As Jordan Love continues to develop as Green Bay’s leader under center, having Watson back could reignite the deep passing attack that defined their offensive identity late last season.

Watson: “My Goal Is to Play This Week”

Watson emphasized that while he’s feeling strong, the final call will come from the Packers’ medical staff.

“That’s my plan,” Watson said. “I say it every week — I’ll leave it up to the trainers, but my goal is to play this week.”

The Packers have until the end of the week to officially activate him from the PUP list, but signs point toward a Sunday night return. If cleared, Watson’s presence could be the difference-maker Green Bay’s offense has been missing. The Steelers’ defense, known for generating turnovers, will be a serious test — meaning explosive plays could be the deciding factor.

What Watson’s Return Means for Green Bay

If Watson suits up, expect the Packers to open up the playbook with more vertical shots downfield. His speed not only stretches the field but also creates room underneath for tight ends and running backs — something Matt LaFleur emphasized in his latest press conference.

With Packers injury updates heading into Week 8 offering mixed news across the roster, Watson’s return would be the most significant boost of all.

Packers Fans Have Been Waiting for This Moment

For Packers fans, Watson’s return symbolizes more than just another player coming back — it’s about restoring the explosive element that defines Green Bay’s offensive identity. His chemistry with Jordan Love could be the key to turning the second half of the season around and reigniting hope for a playoff push.
