The Jacksonville Jaguars are 4-3 after dropping their last two games, and they need to quickly get back on track in a season that’s wide open. One thing that could get Jacksonville back on track is the upcoming November 4 trade deadline. The Jags, and every other team in the league, have one last opportunity to significantly improve their roster for the rest of the season, and they need to take advantage.
One team Jacksonville should be on the phone with is a franchise it has a lot of familiarity with: the Cleveland Browns. The Jaguars and the Browns have been good business partners this year, trading during the draft, and recently swapping veteran corners Greg Newsome II and Tyson Campbell. Now, Vinnie Iyer, in a recent piece for The Sporting News, is proposing one more deal between the two franchises.
Naming the best trade deadline deal all 32 teams should make, Iyer argues Jacksonville should trade for Cleveland guard Wyatt Teller.
Jaguars encouraged to trade for Browns lineman Wyatt Teller
Iyer explains that the two teams have already made multiple deals this year, so they might as well get one more done. Sure, the Jaguars have rookie Wyatt Milum in the fold in the fold, but that shouldn't deter them from bringing in reinforcements.
With Teller currently playing on the final season of his contract, on a 2-5 Browns team, he makes a ton of sense as a trade candidate. The three-time Pro Bowl lineman would be a fantastic addition for Jacksonville, especially when you take into account that the offensive line has given up a concerning 10 sacks and 62 total pressures the past two games.
Teller was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round of the 2018 Draft, before being traded to Cleveland in 2019. In his eight-year career, he has started 95 games, becoming a staple at right guard for the Browns. From 2021 to 2023, Teller was considered one of the best players in football, going to three straight Pro Bowls. Now 31, playing on an expiring contract, his time with the Browns could be coming to an end.
Having Teller finish the year in Jacksonville would be phenomenal for the Jaguars, but it’s hard to imagine Cleveland would actually be willing to part ways with him. Even if the move would make sense for the Browns’ future, the team may prioritize protecting its young quarterbacks for the remainder of this season.
