A controversial officiating decision overshadowed the early stages of Thursday night’s matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Chargers — one that flipped what appeared to be a defensive touchdown into a 14-point swing.
Midway through the first quarter, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was hurried by Minnesota’s blitz and released a pass under pressure. Vikings defensive back Isaiah Rodgers appeared to make a diving interception, popping to his feet and sprinting into the end zone for an apparent pick-six.
The play sent the Vikings’ sideline into celebration, with many believing they had seized the early momentum.

But that jubilation didn’t last long. Officials reviewed the play and ruled that the ball touched the ground as Rodgers tried to secure the catch. The call was overturned, wiping the touchdown off the board and returning possession to Los Angeles.
The reversal left fans — and analysts — fuming. Prime Video’s rules expert Terry McAulay disagreed with the decision, saying on the broadcast, “I don’t see enough to reverse right there.”
The ruling contradicted the long-standing principle that a call on the field must be “clear and obvious” to be changed.
