Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs put the rest of the league on notice Wednesday night.
He’s not just aiming for Defensive Player of the Year; he’s obviously looking to be an MVP and a champion as soon as possible.
Wembanyama had a very busy summer and spent some time with NBA icon Hakeem Olajuwon, who spoke about him on “First Things First” on Wednesday morning.
Olajuwon said that he envisions Wembanyama becoming the best shot-blocker in league history.
“The only person I see that can break my record is Wemby for sure,” Olajuwon said.

Wembanyama put on a masterclass on Wednesday with his 40 points, 15 rebounds, and three blocks.
He was everywhere on both ends of the court and made life miserable for Cooper Flagg during his debut game with the Dallas Mavericks.
Wembanyama showed that he took this summer very seriously and has been clearly paying close attention to his physicality, speed, and strategy on the court.
His three blocks were indeed impressive, and they speak to Olajuwon’s point, but it was his overall versatility that made him so scary.
Wembanyama was doing everything and looked like a one-man team on both offense and defense.
Everyone is expecting Wembanyama to be the top contender for Defensive Player of the Year, but more performances like this could lead to his first Most Valuable Player trophy, too.
It doesn’t matter if it was offense or defense – Wembanyama did it all on Wednesday, and it could be the first of many amazing games this year for the young star.
