Damian Lillard takes a profane shot at Kevin Love over Chauncey Billups post

Damian Lillard was not laughing at Kevin Love’s attempt at comedy this week.

Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier were both arrested by FBI agents on Thursday in relation to their alleged involvement in a mafia-linked illegal betting operation. Billups has been charged in connection with a supposedly rigged poker ring while Rozier has also been charged for allegedly faking an injury during a particular game in order for his “under” bets to cash.

In response to the bombshell news, the Utah Jazz big man Love had a ruthless post to social media. He shared an edited image of Billups and Rozier embracing in the style of the notorious Coldplay “kiss cam” couple. “NO (Draft) KINGS!!!” Love wrote in his caption.

That led to a profane response from the Blazers guard Lillard.

“Weak a– s–t,” commented Lillard on Love’s joke post.

Love then fired back at Lillard in the comment section (before ultimately deleting the original post).

“No, we’re not gonna do this,” Love said. “Chauncey is my bro since 2010 — we won a world championship together, and I love and respect him. T-Ro is my brother, he knows my stance, and I supported him through last year’s struggles. Comedy crosses lines. Social media comments are just jokes. Same s–t with Jimmy [Butler] and the [Miami] Heat last year. I support the elite brotherhood we share. And respect to you always.”

Love is correct that edgy comedy on social media has been his brand over the last year or so. He indeed cracked some ruthless jokes about the Jimmy Butler-Miami Heat breakup last season and has also since poked fun at the Kawhi Leonard-Aspiration saga.

But Lillard, who is now in his second stint playing for Billups on the Blazers, clearly didn’t find Love’s post to be funny. That was always a more risky joke to make for Love too considering that there are very serious criminal allegations involving some potentially drastic consequences in play here.
