Something weird is happening with Giants WR Malik Nabers' surgery, recovery, return from torn ACL

This isn't normally a storyline.

But for some reason, the New York Giants and Malik Nabers have brought up a weird situation following his torn ACL.

The issue: Nabers still hasn't had surgery to repair the ACL tear.

He was hurt on Sept. 28.

And according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, the surgery still hasn't happened as of Oct. 23.

Raanan added: "Usually it's to allow swelling to decrease and to build up strength around the knee. Not that unusual."

Anecdotally, it still seems a tad bizarre. NFL players usually seem to have their ACL surgeries within days of the injury.

For Nabers, it's been almost a month.

Now there can be medical reasons why this makes sense. There could be swelling that still hasn't gone down enough (although that's a bit concerning in its own way).

There could also be certain rehab techniques doctors are pursuing to potentially attack the surgery in a different way.

If there's an unbeneficial hold up, it's not ideal. The recovery from a torn ACL surgery can take 9-to-12 months, and if Nabers has his surgery a month later than he could've, it could impact his timeline for returning in 2026.

For now, fans have to assume that there's a good reason for this. But it's at least a tad concerning.
