But he will happily add to his goals record against United and help Albion pass a big test.
The Seagulls want to back up their 2-1 success over Newcastle by making it back-to-back wins as they visit Old Trafford tomorrow (5.30pm).
Former United striker Welbeck has scored against his old club six times in total – four of them at Old Trafford.
Asked about playing at United, he told The Argus: “It’s special. For me to go back to Old Trafford, I’m a Manchester boy, I’m a Manc at heart.
“It is always nice to be home, to go back into Manchester.
“It’s family, friends, everybody is there but I just see it another game.
“I have done it so many times now. It’s not anything out of the ordinary
“I think the first time when I went back with Arsenal, that was really strange.
“Now I have been there so many times with the opposite team.
“I learnt in the academy at United to play the game and not the occasion.”
Welbeck suffered defeats on each of his first five returns to Old Trafford in the Premier League, with Arsenal, Watford and Albion.
But he has played in three successive wins for the Seagulls since then.
He has also scored away to his old club in the FA Cup for Arsenal.
Both teams are looking to back-up big results from last weekend, when United won at Liverpool.
Welbeck said: “We have had big wins and maybe not followed it up.
“It is never easy in the Premier League but that is something we are working towards doing.”
