Barcelona ace back on Manchester United’s radar – years after saying ‘yes’ to Ferguson

FC Barcelona have successfully completed several renewal operations in the last few months, and the club’s sporting department has done a good job in ensuring the long-term continuity of some of their most important players.

However, there are still some players whose futures are highly uncertain, and this is particularly true for the Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, whose contract is ending next year, and the Blaugranes have not made any decision regarding his extension.

Meanwhile, despite his advancing age, the Pole still has a great demand in the market. This is clear from a report from SPORT, which claims that Manchester United are among the clubs that have already reached out to Lewandowski’s entourage to explore the possibility of signing him next summer.

The Premier League giants view the situation as a valuable market opportunity, particularly with Lewandowski likely available as a free agent. United manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly a strong admirer of the Polish forward and believes his presence could provide both experience and quality to the squad.

Furthermore, Amorim sees Lewandowski as an ideal mentor for the recently signed Benjamin Šeško, whose development could benefit from working alongside such an experienced striker.

Interestingly, Lewandowski revealed in a BBC interview a few months ago that he had once agreed to join Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United in 2012, although the transfer ultimately never materialized.

“To Manchester United I decided and said yes. I wanted to join Manchester United, to see Alex Ferguson.”

After excelling at Borussia Dortmund, he went on to enjoy a remarkable career at Bayern Munich before fulfilling his long-held dream of wearing the Blaugrana shirt.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Lewandowski has reportedly expressed his desire to stay at Barcelona for at least one more season. He is even willing to accept a reduced salary and a secondary role within the team if necessary.

The Catalan club, however, will not make a final decision until the end of the season, and his recent injuries have not strengthened his case.

Meanwhile, his agent, Pini Zahavi, continues to explore potential offers across Europe. AC Milan have already been informed of the striker’s situation, while several other European clubs are expected to show interest in the coming months.

Lewandowski has no plans to move to Saudi Arabia despite lucrative offers from the region, as his priority remains competing at the highest level in European football for at least one more season.

Barcelona are fully aware of the growing interest in their veteran striker. While they still value him for his leadership and finishing ability, a contract renewal will only be considered if he maintains strong performances and remains injury-free throughout the season.

Should he leave, Barcelona will turn to the transfer market in search of a replacement, although financial limitations could make the task of securing the right forward particularly difficult.
