Guiu joined Sunderland from Chelsea on a season-long loan in the summer and made three appearances for the [Black Cats](http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/football/sunderland?ref=au) but then returned to his parent club after Liam Delap suffered a serious injury.
Guiu could only return to Stamford Bridge if Sunderland gave it the green light, which they did after negotiations with the Blues and it became clear they were going to be able to replace the outgoing loanee with Ajax striker Brian Brobbey.
The 19-year-old is now in contention to play against Sunderland tomorrow after scoring in the midweek Champions League hammering of Ajax.
But Guiu has been a fringe figure in the Premier League since his return to Chelsea, making just four appearances from the bench.

With Delap now "very close" to a return to training, Guiu is set to find himself further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, leading to suggestions Sunderland might look to re-sign the striker in January.
Given Guiu has already represented Chelsea and Sunderland this season, the Spaniard is unable to play in an official match for any other club.
So if Chelsea do decide Guiu would benefit from potentially playing more football elsewhere, Sunderland would be the only option.
When the possibility was put to Le Bris, he said: "Too early to say.
"The problem with him is he's played for Sunderland and Chelsea, so if he has to go on loan it's only for Sunderland, so it might be the only choice but it's up to us to decide.
"At the minute we have good strikers and we don't need anything at the minute."
Le Bris was, however, full of praise for the teenager, who he rates highly.
“I really liked the relationship with him," he said.
"You can feel that he's really coachable. He wants to learn, he wants to develop himself and he wants to connect with people. So, I really appreciated this part of his personality.
“But his fitness level wasn't good at that moment. So, the main part was to give him the opportunity to train with the squad, work in the gym. And we worked for Chelsea because I believe that now he's ready. But it wasn't the case with us.
"He's a really good footballer, really committed, complete forward, who can run in behind, hold the ball, defend really well and counter-press really strong. A good forward."
Le Bris added: “It's well documented what happened. We developed a good connection with Chelsea and when they had many injuries, they decided to call our sporting department. They had a conversation and the end of the story was he came back to Chelsea.
“The market is the market, and sometimes you have to face unpredictable situations. We were able to find another solution. So the balance on this one was we can say ‘yes’ to your request if we are able to find another solution, and that was possible, so at the end we are okay.
"We appreciated the short spell we had with with Marc, but now it's another story.”
Le Bris currently has Wilson Isidor, Eliezer Mayenda and Brobbey jostling for a starting place up-front.
Mayenda got the nod at the start of the season but Isidor has now started five successive games.
Brobbey has so far only played 57 Premier League minutes in three appearances from the bench since his deadline day arrival, but Le Bris always knew patience would be required with the striker and is seeing positive signs in training at the Academy of Light.
He said: "Brian is working really well. He didn't get an opportunity to start and he connected with the squad a bit late, so when you don't start with the squad it's a bit more difficult to find your references with your teammates.
"But I'm happy and pleased with his behaviour and I have no doubt about his ability to help the squad."
