Alan Shearer believes there is no way back for Marcus Rashford at Manchester United as the Reds academy graduate continues to impress at Barcelona.

The England star made a season-long loan switch to the La Liga giants this summer after being deemed surplus to requirements by United head coach Ruben Amorim. Barca have the option to sign Rashford for £30million in 2026 and are reportedly interested in making the move permanent, but at a cut-price rate.

The 27-year-old has impressed in his early days at the Camp Nou - netting four goals and providing six assists across all competitions for Hansi Flick's team this season. His return to form has seen him earn a recall to the England squad.

And Shearer has offered his verdict on Rashford's impact in Spain - sharing his belief that he faces no future at M16, whatever happens from here.

"I don't think anyone ever denied the talent that Marcus Rashford has, it's just whether he had the desire or the hunger to go and produce that talent on the big stage," he told Betfair. Shearer also suggested that he 'got away' with some things at United and has had to improve his attitude.

"He knew moving to Barcelona that he couldn’t get away with certain things which he might have got away with at Manchester United. Not with the big-hitters there and the manager of that team.

"I know they've got an incredible amount of players from the academy, but because of what the club is, I guess he'd gone there with the right attitude and shown everyone the ability we all knew he had.

"We saw that a few years ago when he got 30 goals in a season and he's showing that again now. It was just about unlocking it in him. But the ship has sailed for him to return to Man United."

Rashford scored a brace in his side’s 6-1 Champions League win over Olympiacos on Tuesday night. Speaking after the game, he said that the chance to play in El Clasico against Real Madrid this weekend is one of the reasons he made the move to Barcelona in the summer.

"The Clasico is a great game and that's why I've come here, for this number of games," he said. "I am looking forward to it, I hope we win."

The 27-year-old confirmed himself on Thursday evening that his heart is set on staying at Barca. "Oh yeah, for sure," he said, when asked whether he wants to stay.

"I'm enjoying this football club and I think for anybody who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in the history of the game. For a player is an honour."
